Creative work : Write an Community Invitation .
Below is the email I actually sent out to a group of people. I send something out the day before Tabletop Fellowship. This one I opted to tie in Lent into it slightly.
Friends, Family, Loved Ones, and My Beloved Community,
This is Joshua Bennett, and I’m extending a personal invitation to you for our 16th Tabletop Fellowship at St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Right now, we’re in the season of Lent—a time to pause and reflect as we walk this path with intention, preparing for what’s ahead.
I don’t know about you, but when I walk—when I begin a journey, especially one where I don’t really know the destination—I find comfort in coming across something familiar along the way. That’s what Tabletop Fellowship is for me, and I hope it is for others too. It serves as an anchor point—something steady and welcoming, always there if we need or want it.
Which is a little ironic, because I don’t really know what kind of shenanigans will unfold tomorrow. But I know shenanigans will occur. And maybe that’s the real point of an anchor—not just stability, but the assurance that whatever happens, we’re in it together.
So, as always, I’ll restate the promise we’ve made through Tabletop Fellowship:
Tomorrow, there will be food.
Tomorrow, there will be drinks.
Tomorrow, there will be over 100 board, card, and dice games.
Tomorrow, there will be red, blue, yellow, white, and green tickets to win and collect.
Tomorrow, there will be all of us—like-minded individuals choosing to come together for a few hours to share fellowship, stories, laughter, and truth.Tomorrow is Tabletop Fellowship. I look forward to seeing you, talking with you, and simply basking in your light as we play together. Because your light is something familiar—something comforting on my journey.
If you know someone—a friend, a stranger, or a loved one—who might also find comfort in our fellowship, please share this invitation with them. Everyone is truly welcome.
When: The Second & Last Tuesday of every month
Time: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM*
I can’t wait to see you there.
