Creative work: Write a 6 Word Story
“Didn’t Work. Breathe. Try again Later”
Reflection: Funny how these things sort of just evolve. I wasn’t sure where I was going with this story at first, and then my mind drifted to my recent situation with what is now a former employer. I don’t want to get into the details, but it became a classic case of how a lack of communication can be worse than the act itself.
Letting people go after a government contract ends is never easy. I don’t expect companies to get communication perfectly right, but I would assume that once they recognize an attempt at communication didn’t work, they would try again. And that’s what hurt the most. They didn’t try again later.
And that’s the reflection point for me.
As human beings, we screw things up all the time—especially in relationships. That’s not the painful part of the human condition. What is painful is the lack of desire to try again. To make things right. My life is riddled with relationships where I just cut my losses and stopped trying.
What a tragic way to live sometimes.
